Every month a character from the Harry Potter books will be featured here at this special 'Character of the Month' section. He or she will answer your questions about canon, fanon and basically everything under the sun!
Character of The Month (April)

Ladies and gents, it's the moment you've all been waiting for! You've asked the questions, and *Prof. Remus Lupin has answered them. Due to the large amount of questions and the lack of time to answer all of them, Prof.Lupin hand-picked a total of 17 questions.
*Prof. Remus Lupin is played by Sorceress, an RPG-er from CV's official RPG: Beyond Hogwarts. All answers are based on the storyline featured in 'Beyond Hogwarts' RPG*

Hello. I was wondering, when one is bitten by a werewolf, what kind of things happen to them (other than the obvious, of course)? Do they immediately show the effects even when it's not the full moon? Are there other things that happen? Fever? Delirium? Some other weird thing?
Uhm, just curious. Hope I wasn't insulting.
Well, since one can only be bitten by a werewolf at the full moon, at least in an infectious sense, the effects are immediate. Of course, like any disease, they vary from individual to individual. The infection moves through the body, and, as I have found, it is very exhausting at times even when the moon is not full. There are many good references on lycanthrope lore and legend that you might want to check out, since werewolves vary from culture to culture.

Dear Prof. Lupin,
I was wondering, what's it like to transform into a werewolf on a regular basis? Are you trying to help along the process of finding a cure for this unfortunate amangi? Do you think there will ever be a cure? Thanks.
Transforming is painful, and exhausting, but after so many years I have learned to deal with it, much the same as anyone with a lifelong illness. You bear it because you must, and try to look to the positive aspects of life to help get through it. Frankly, in many ways I am fortunate in having an illness that is so relatively predictable and short term. There are people who live with far more chronic and debilitating conditions than mine.
I would certainly be willing to help in finding a cure, but that form of research is not where my main talents lie. As far as if I think there will ever be a cure... I don't know. And, to be honest, if there were, I would have to think long and hard about using it. It would depend largely upon whether the cure is worse than the illness.

Firstly, hello! My name is Natalia Stean, but people ussualy call me Nat.Anyway.. Going to my questions:
1. When you were at Hogwarts, your friends were animagus to help you with your werewolf form. However, you weren't an animagus were you?And if you were, what do you think you would transform in?
2. We never saw your patronus in any of the books. What's it like?
Hello, Nat!
No, I was not an animagus, I'm not even certain that lycanthropes can become animagi. Were I to become one, however, I think that I would like to be a raven. The thought of being able to fly is rather appealing.
My Patronus is, strangely enough, a wolf. Or perhaps that isn't as strange after all.

Hello Remus! This is not really a question, but a salute to the greatest person in HP. I find myself looking at the full moon, wondering if you are in pain at that moment, or are you at peace? I know your lycanthropy is a curse, but I commend you, Remus Lupin, the greatest Maurader that ever lived!
Gina, thank you very much for your kind words. And although I may be cursed with lycanthropy, I have been very blessed with my friends and other people who have cared about me.
As far as being the greatest Marauder... I'd like to think that we were all, for some shining moment, great in our friendship, rather than any of us eclipsing the others. And yes, even Peter, before he become what he did. The Marauders were not individuals, we were a team, a pack. That was our greatest strength, and, ultimately, our greatest weakness as well.

Hi how are you? DO you like it when you turn into a werewolf, how does it feel ? Also did you ever fancy Lily?
I don't really like it when I transform, it is painful and exhausting. Nor do I much care for being in wolf form when I am caged up, or when I do not take the wolfsbane. However, I bear it because I must.
As far as Lily is concerned, I can assure you quite adamantly that I never felt anything but respect and friendship for her.

How are you coping with the death of one Sirius Black?
I am coping as well as anyone does with the loss of a loved one several years after the fact. Some days I miss him so badly that it is painful, and others I just think of him with fond nostalgia. Life goes on, I learned that the hard way at a very young age. It is not, however, a lesson that I care to keep learning again and again.

Hey Professor! How ya doing?? I have a few questions and would really appreciate it if you would answer them. 1) What's it like being a werewolf? I'm very interested in werewolves and vampires and when I found out you were, I was really excited!!! 2) Are you going to come back to Hogwarts and teach?! You were the best teacher! You're awesome!!!! 3) Many rumors are going around that you and Tonks will get together, i don't think it's true but if you don't mind, could you please clear this up.. yes or no? Thanks again sir.
Being a werewolf is a difficulty like any other lifelong illness, but I have learned to deal with it after having it for so long. I try not to dwell on it. I'm gratified that you thought I was a good teacher, and I loved teaching, but I have no plans currently to return, because my life has become focussed in areas outside of Hogwarts. And... Tonks? I do beg your pardon! No, definitely not Tonks. My mate would have quite a few things to say about a relationship between she and myself.

Have you ever had sex, while in werewolf form, with another dog?!?!? *roar*
Wolves are not canines (dogs), they are lupines, a genetically distinct species. And I am not a pure wolf, of course, being a lycanthrope. As far as the more prurient part of your question, I believe I can channel my mate here a bit and say, quite emphatically, that whether I have or not is none of your concern.

Professor Lupin, do you like chocolates? You seem to have a neverending amount of chocolate frogs with you. Do they have different flavours? If so, which do you like?
I love chocolate. And Chocolate Frogs come in only one flavor.

Professor Lupin if the unfortunate hypocrisies of the wizarding world (such as unjust prejudice to certain maladies a wizard such as yourself might have) were erased and you were able to teach wherever you wanted and whatever you wanted, what would you choose?
My life has taken a direction that has pulled me away from teaching, although, were I to desire to go back to that as a career, I would be very happy to return to teaching DADA at Hogwarts.

Sooo, Professor Lupin, what do you know of the Hermione and Draco romance? Come on now, spill the beans! Hermione hasn't told me much, but she did mention that you have walked in on her and Draco in the DADA classroom a while back, what did you see?
I find it fascinating that you say this, as Hermione isn't in the habit of lying, and the incident you described is not something that occurred. I must ask her, since I'm sure you wouldn't make something up, now would you, about talking with Hermione?

Hello Mr. Lupin! First I'd like to say you are the best Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher that we, Hogwarts students, have ever had. I really don't think being a werewolf interfers with your professional life but most of the magical community is still very affraid of people in your condition. How do you deal with this form of racism?
Thank you for the kind words, Hermione, I appreciate them very much, especially from a student of your excellence.
As far as the racism, I deal with it by trying to be better than the people who shun me. Unfortunately the thing about prejudice is that it neither acknowledges logic nor uses it, therefore, some people will never change their minds.

Dear Mr Lupin
As a teacher and being around Hermione both without them being together what is your professional oppinion on the possiblilty of themm having some sort of relationship?
Who are "they"? You only mention Hermione. And as far as my "professional opinion" of her having a relationship with anyone, I don't have one, because I am not a professional when it comes to relationships, nor is it any of my business.

Hello! Just very curious. Um...how does it feel like to be a werewolf? Does it hurt or bother you much?
I think I've covered this, but yes, it does hurt, quite a lot actually, at the time of my transformation.

Hello Mr. Lupin! How are you? Just a quick question for you...well actually two quick questions!
1) How was it going to Hogwarts with James and Sirius? You must have had a blast!
2) I know you have connections to Harry...any way you could introduce us? hehe Thanks!
P.S. Reading about your DADA lessons made me want to be there! They sounded amazing and fun!
Going to Hogwarts was wonderful, and having friends was wonderful. There were good things and bad things for me, the same as there are for anyone as they are growing up, but I wouldn't trade those days for anything.
Sorry, I can't introduce Harry to you, since you and I are not acquainted.
